Frequently Asked Questions

Q I’m hooked! How do I get started?

A:

The steps to get into the queue are:

  1. Read my terms of service and make sure you are comfortable with them.
  2. Pick your design package and any web support services you need.
  3. Fill out the new project questionnaire.
  4. You will receive an invoice from me for about half your balance due. A la carte items and premade blogs need to be paid in full. One you pay this deposit, your spot in the queue is secured.

Q How do I pay you?

A:

I accept Paypal in US dollars only. You do not need a Paypal account to pay with credit card. I also accept money order or cashier’s check. Please contact me to arrange mailing. This may delay your place in the queue.

Q How long is your queue?

A:

**The queue is booked through 2010!** The queue fills insanely fast! This is awesome, but I realize it means that it is hard to get a spot. The queue is often open only for a few days and fills 6-9 months out. I make all queue announcements on Twitter and Facebook. Please follow me there to be the first to know.

Q On which platforms do you design?

A:

I can make graphics for any blog or website you need. I only develop and install blogs for self-hosted Wordpress (.org) and Twitter. Sometimes I can be talked into Blogger – for the right project. I do not design templates for Wordpress.com (url.wordpress.com) or Typepad blog platforms. If you need help finding a host, I use and recommend my affiliate host of choice, DreamHost.

Q Where can I see examples of your work?

A:

I have a few selected examples of my work highlighted in my Portfolio. I have done hundreds of blogs and my clients can be found on 5 continents: North America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. Are you in South America or Antarctica (*gasp!*) – I might have a deal for you. Would love to be able to say my blogs are on every continent on the planet. Want a referral? No problem! My clients are enthusiastic supporters (best darn clients in the world!). I’d be happy to put you in touch with a few.

Q I’ve paid. How soon will you start? How long does it take?

A:

The wait time depends on the number of clients before you. I can generally get through 6-8 projects a month. Once we start your project will take anywhere from 2 -7 days, typically. You will need to be at your computer frequently during those days. Please let me know if there is a period when you will not be at your computer, so I can work around you.

Q I bought a dot com name from _________. Can you design a blog on it?

A:

Yes, absolutely. You can buy your domain through any registrar. It’s a very simple setting change to point the domain where we want it to go. For WordPress, you will need to have both a host and a domain name. I use and recommend DreamHost. Contact me before you get in the queue, if you’d like my help setting that up. You are NOT required to use the hosting company I use. I can work with a number of hosts. There are some hosts that I’ve blacklisted. Please contact me if you already have a host to make sure we can work with them.

Q Do you install music, facebook, etsy, third-party widgets or plug-ins on my blog?

A:

I don’t install anything that requires an off-site account or a password to set up. Those are considered third-party and will not be installed. I am enthusiastically *against* the idea of auto-playing music on a blog. I will install a handful of necessary plugins that I use in your site’s design. Any extra-curricular plugins installed by you after I am out is at your own risk. Please do your homework before installing plugins. You allow the developer to install code on your blog. Be SURE it’s a trusted resource.

Q I don’t even have a blog yet! Can you help me?

A:

Absolutely! I love working with new bloggers. Welcome to the blogosphere! I recommend adding “Blog Boot Camp” to your design and web service order. I will talk you through Blogging 101.
